In another step towards the end of armed Kurdish resistance, the leader of the SDF and President of Syria have met and agreed to unite into a single country.
As the Kurdish movement in Türkiye moves towards peace with the Turkish government, so do their Syrian allies the SDF.
On 12th March, SDF leader Mazloum Abdi, and Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa signed a peace agreement; agreeing to merge the two governments. This marks another huge step towards the end of the Syrian civil war, with all that remains of the conflict being pro Assad loyalist uprisings in the west and the Israeli invasion and bombardment in the south. They will also be conducting joint military operations against what remains of ISIS, who mostly exist within SDF territory, and the Syrian government will take over the running of SDF prison camps containing ISIS members.
