Born in January of 2007, Larry assumed his role of chief mouser on the 15th of February 2011 and has kept it ever since.
In his time, Larry has seen two monarchs and 6 prime ministers, including Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak and Starmer. Larry comes from a long line of resident cats at Downing Street dating back to the 16th century, during the reign of Henry VIII. So the role predates the parliament becoming more powerful than the monarch in the UK and the existence of the USA. He is however the first to be given the official and prestigious title of chief mouser. This came after media outrage at an announcement from Downing Street that a new cat would not be brought in to fix the growing rat and mouse problem. Eventually, Cameron caved to the will of the people and employed Larry.

In a 2024 poll ahead of the election, Larry had higher approval ratings than both Starmer and Sunak, prompting many to wonder why he wasn’t chosen as the next PM and increased criticism of the two party system.
Others have questioned Larry’s true roll in wider events. In 2013 he had a falling out with Cameron over some cat hair, which was never DNA tested to be Larry’s. 3 years later, Cameron was no longer PM. Then in 2016 during a Presidential visit by Trump to Downing Street, Larry photobombed the picture with PM May and sheltered under the Presidential car from the rain. Three years later May was out. During Liz Truss’ infamously short tenure, Larry was pictured refusing to let her stroke him, she had left Downing Street that same year. Larry was also spotted during Sunaks announcement of the general election, the election Sunak lost, Larry had also made an enemy of Sunaks dog named Nova.

All this and much more have led many amongst British and global society to believe that Larry is in fact the puppeteer of UK democracy, the true British Emperor.
