As Europe undergoes political turmoil, Musk attempts to shepherd them to the right.
Elon Musk, environmentalist entrepreneur turned right wing activist, has recently come under fire for interfering in European politics. Musk has used his platform X(formally twitter) to voice his views and concerns over the current governments of Europe. He comments on major right wing talking points, particularly on immigration, government tyranny and free speech, and has targeted the UK and Germany; supporting right wing parties like Reform UK and Alternative for Deutschland in Germany, both of whom are considered far right, with the German AFD even having members prosecuted for neo Nazism. Musk has also taken an aggressive stance against UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, accusing him and the Labour party of covering up the grooming gangs, several Labour ministers including Sir Starmer have hit back at Musk’s misinformation. Musk has even gone so far as to call for an American toppling of the UK government, posting a poll on X asking his followers if America should “liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government”
But its not all sunshine and roses for Musk and the right wing parties of Europe, Musk recently fell out with Reform leader Nigel Farage over UK right wing political activist Tommy Robinson. Robinson is currently serving 18 months for contempt of court, however many right wing supporters of him including Musk claim he is a political prisoner. When Farage failed to endorse Robinson, saying he wouldn’t let him join Reform and he was rightfully in prison, Musk hit back saying Farage isn’t right for Reform. Farage responded saying he is surprised but still respects Musk as a “hero” even though he doesn’t agree with him on everything.
Due to Musk’s support of parties such as the AFD in Europe, the EU is being pushed by several leaders to take legal actions against him. Many supporters of Musk will say he is simply exercising his free speech, but opponents will argue he is actively swaying elections and that the richest man in the world shouldn’t be using his money and fame for politics.
